The Answers You Need

What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a medically proven technology that delivers more oxygen molecules into your body with each breath that you take. This treatment enhances the body's natural healing process by inhaling up to 100% oxygen. During treatment you are in a total body chamber, where atmospheric pressure is increased and controlled. The increase in pressure allows your body to absorb more oxygen, which then infuses with your blood, plasma and cerebral fluids. This allows your body to heal itself by re-oxygenating damaged tissue and it allows circulation to return to the area.

What can Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy be used for?

HBOT can be used to treat many conditions. Currently, there are 14 FDA approved conditions, and many more "off label" conditions. Click the link below for a list of conditions and published studies.

What is the process for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?

You will change into hyperbaric approved scrubs and socks. During treatment, you will lie down or sit up, depending on the chamber being used. You will breathe medical grade oxygen through a mask in a pressurized chamber.

What does it feel like during treatment?

As the chamber is pressurized, you will experience a sensation similar to when you are flying in an airplane. Most people (90%) automatically and easily adjust to these pressure changes, while reporting no adverse effects. If discomfort is experienced, we can adjust the rate of pressurization. We also have some tips that we can discuss if any discomfort is experienced.

How long is a session?

Sessions typically last between 90-120 minutes. This time includes paperwork at your first session, changing, getting up to pressure, being at pressure for 60 minutes, and then depressurizing.

What do I wear in the chamber?

We will have you change into hyperbaric approved scrubs and socks. You are not allowed to wear nail polish, hairspray, perfume/cologne, or anything else that is oil based.

What is allowed in the chamber?

You can bring in books, crossword puzzles, card games, etc. You may not bring in any pens, markers, electronics or anything that has a battery (phones, watches, laptops, etc.). Hearing aids and diabetic devices are allowed. There is a TV in our largest chamber as well as music options in the others.

Is it safe?

HBOT is extremely safe, especially when applied at lower pressures and following proper guidelines. Oxygen toxicity and adverse reactions are rare and pertain more towards high-pressure clinical applications in hospital situations; where patients are delivered a much higher dosage, due to acute and life-threatening conditions. When applied at lower dosages, there are impeccable safety records.

Is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy covered by my insurance?

Most insurance companies will cover FDA approved conditions. You will need to check with your insurance company to see what they will cover. We can provide a superbill for you to submit to insurance. Currently, we do not file insurance. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is HSA/FSA approved.

Is a prescription required?

A prescription is generally not needed if you are utilizing hyperbarics for general health and wellness, even if you have an ailment.

If you are seeking treatment for a specific condition, you will need a prescription.

You will always need a prescription if you plan to submit claims to insurance.

You can get a prescription from your provider or from our overseeing provider.
